“It is an exciting and beautiful place to serve,” Karen says. “Soldotna has a large retirement community and SUMC is over 50% retirees who have become “Snowbirds”, meaning they head south for the winter months and return for our glorious late Spring to early Fall.”
Born in Mt. Vernon, Washington, Karen attended the University of Washington and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Creative Writing in 1982. She did her graduate studies at Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois, earning her Masters of Divinity degree in theology and pastoral ministry in 1985.
Karen continued her graduate studies in Washington, earning a Master’s equivalency in Marriage and Family Therapy at Presbyterian Counseling Services and Seattle Pacific University, Seattle, WA and a Master’s Certificate in Spiritual Direction at Gonzaga University, Spokane, WA. She was ordained an elder in 1987 and is a member of the Pacific Northwest Annual Conference.
